Maeng Da Kapuas
The seeds used to grow these plants originated from the Kapuas region of West Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo. They were collected from a plantation producing a selected, premium-quality Mitragyna speciosa crop that is exported under the name “Maeng Da”.

Commercial Strain
The plants offered here were grown from seed obtained from a friend’s plantation, where Mitragyna speciosa is cultivated on a large commercial scale. The parent trees are carefully selected and maintained to produce consistently high-quality genetics, ensuring healthy, vigorous plants. I have listed these as “(commercial strain)”, rather than a specific cultivar name, as these are used to make various products which are sold under different names, depending on how they are produced / processed.

Mitragyna speciosa is a tropical evergreen tree native to the rainforests of Southeast Asia. A member of the coffee family (Rubiaceae), it can develop into an impressive tree with broad, glossy green leaves and an attractive, upright growth habit. In its natural habitat, it grows in warm, humid conditions with abundant rainfall and rich, well-drained soils.

As a tropical species, Mitragyna speciosa is not frost hardy. In the UK it should be grown in a warm, bright location and protected from cold temperatures, being brought indoors during the colder months.
