This pairing includes one plant each of Ephedra sinica and Ephedra distachya, both well-established specimens grown from seed. The Ephedra sinica was sown in December 2020, and the Ephedra distachya in February 2022, making them three to four and a half years old. Both are mature, well established, and completely hardy in the UK.

These low-growing, drought-tolerant perennials are known for their striking jointed stems, long history and botanical interest. Ephedra sinica grows with a slightly more upright habit, while Ephedra distachya tends to remain compact and spreading.
